Hello and welcome back to my series for game week captaincy selection! Each week I will be picking 3 FPL captaincy options for the upcoming game week, broken down as the following –
TOP PICK – The captaincy whom I believe will be the most highly owned and is therefore a risk to go against.
PIPPED AT THE POST – The captaincy which I believe could also haul but may well be a lower EO than we expect.
DARK HORSE – The maverick pick that may have murmurs of anticipation across the community but many will be worried to gamble on.
Unfortunately, due to the quick turnaround between game weeks I was unable to get out a captaincy article for game week 14. However, I felt it only fair that I get this out for game week 15, even though once again we have an incredibly short turnaround before Saturday’s early kick off between West Ham & Chelsea. The festive period is not only fast paced but there will be inevitable rotation amongst key players around every corner over the next month, so although Salah has become to go to permanent captain, these picks could well make for very valuable vice captains if called upon.
In game week 14 the kings of the week inevitably included Salah with his 15-point haul against Everton, however it was a man who had failed to score in his previous 3 fixtures who stole the headlines on Sunday. That man was Cristiano Ronaldo. He amassed 13 points with 2 goals against Arsenal which included a very well taken penalty and he looked lively! Man United’s fixtures now turn for the better with a very nice run of games all the way through to March, so CR7 could well be on a lot of radars in the next couple of weeks. He is certainly on mine!
This week I have 3 captaincy alternatives for you over Salah, the question will be will they be your vice-captain or will you be bold enough to go against the Egyptian this week.

I personally believe that Spurs have the better fixture, but even though I am an owner of Harry Kane, I am not at all confident of any returns given his recent league performances. I obviously hope he proves me wrong, but this will be my last week owning him before I move onto the man that I feel could be the top pick aside from Salah this weekend. That man is of course Cristiano Ronaldo.
Having watched the Arsenal – Manchester United game, Ronaldo looked like a man with a bit of a point to prove with new boss Ralf Rangnick watching on from the stands. Now that sounds crazy given Ronaldo scored his 800th & 801st goals on Thursday, but there have been a number of people questioning whether Ronaldo has it in him at his age to work within Rangnick’s system. However, I certainly believe that he will fit right in and given the run of games coming, goals are undoubtedly coming with it for the Portuguese star.
Ronaldo had 6 shots against Arsenal, with 4 of them on target resulting in 2 goals. Now that is just one shot less that he had had in the previous 4 game weeks and 1 more on target too! I personally believe that the amount of chances created for Ronaldo is going to increase too with the reintroduction of Sancho back into the squad and alongside Fernandes & Rashford, Ronaldo could have a few chances put on a silver platter for him. Yes, the following week against Norwich is arguably a better entry point if you aren’t already on him, but at home against Palace this weekend shouldn’t put people off buying before this week’s deadline.

Now I said that I believed Spurs have the best fixture this weekend and I stand by that. So, for that reason the player pipped at the post isn’t Harry Kane, as I simply refuse to promote him, but his partner in crime Son Heung Min. Spurs looked an improved outfit against Brentford and although still a far cry from where Conte wants them to be, it was clear that he is trying to implement his system within the group he currently has.
Son looked to be the more likely to return and he did so, scoring one of his 2 shots on target. He was looking to get in behind whenever possible and given his pace, that could be a great outlet within Conte’s system. At 10.4m, he is at the top end in terms of midfielders but given he is cheaper than Kane, I think he will be worth it this weekend. Given the amount of games Spurs have to play over the winter period, including domestic cup ties, there will be some rotation but I don’t foresee this weekend being one of them for Son.
Spurs come up against an improved Norwich side this weekend but given the tie is at home, I think Spurs will have too much for the canaries this time round. Conte will be hoping to get to January and then ship out the dead wood and bring in some players who he believes will improve the squad under the new system, but for now he will be reliant on Son & Kane to bag some braces along the way.

My final pick is a bit of a curve ball but given the importance of the fixture, I am going to go with Callum Wilson to get himself on the score sheet this weekend at home to Burnley. Defensively Newcastle still look frail and Eddie Howe will be looking to strengthen in January, but going forward they certainly have talent. Wilson, Saint-Maximin & even Joelinton to a point have looked improved and invigorated under Howe and they will be looking to pick up a huge 3 points this weekend.
3 points currently split Newcastle at the foot of the table from Norwich & Burnley and they currently sit 6 points from safety so this weekends tie is a massive opportunity to close the gap. It feels strange to be promoting a forward from a team sitting bottom of the league but Wilson is a talented lad and, on his day, can give any defence a tough time.
I may well be looking to punt on Wilson from Jimenez for the next couple of weeks before re-assessing and I will be hoping it is a little more fruitful than the Mexicans 2 blanks from 2 good fixtures.
So, in summary, my picks are as follows –
- TOP PICK – Cristiano Ronaldo
- PIPPED AT THE POST – Son Heung Min
- DARK HORSE –Callum Wilson
Get those teams locked in and good luck for the week!
