GW1 is in the bag, we’ve got our starting position, and we’ve learnt… a little.

Before you click confirm on those transfers, or save team, for the final time this week, here are a few things to look out for:

Are your players available?

They may not be flagged, but there are multiple reasons why players may not play. Their wife could be about to give birth any day. They could be quarantining, etc.? For example, William Saliba (4.4m) is playing for Arsenal u23 tonight so he won’t be playing this weekend. Make sure you’ve checked on your squad.

Rotation risks

We’ve already seen in GW1 that some of the players we thought were likely to start/play missed out or had to settle for a sub appearance. Rúben Vinagre (4.5m) and Aleksandar Mitrović (6.0m) were just two examples from the opening weekend, so particularly when considering transfers try to avoid those most at risk.

Injury news

Ensure you have all of the information possible before locking in your team. Ben Dinnery on Twitter is a very useful source for this, and there are multiple websites available which track all player injuries, including Ben’s: https://www.premierinjuries.com/injury-table.php

Transfer targets

With the transfer window still open for a few weeks, there is plenty of activity going on. As such, there are players who are unlikely to play if they are subject of ongoing conversations between clubs. For example, the rumours of Diego Jota (6.5m) moving to Liverpool are picking up pace, making him less likely to feature vs Man City on Monday. On the flip side, this increases the chance of Daniel Podence (5.5m) keeping his place in the team. Again, just make sure your players are on the right side of this fence.

Lastly, as usual, make sure you cover the basics:

  1. Is your captain selected correctly?
  2. Are your rotating defenders and bench in the right order?
  3. Don’t forget the deadline is now 90 minutes before the first kickoff!

Good luck everyone!
